I am quite surprised that Al Gore's position on troop withdrawl has never been brought up by any Kossack. Inconvenient truth?
In a wide-range interview with ABC:
Gore, however, disagreed with Sen. John Kerry's, D-Mass., call to withdraw all U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of the year.
"I would pursue the twin objectives of trying to withdraw our forces as quickly as we possibly can, while at the same time minimizing the risk that we'll make the mess over there even worse and raise even higher the danger of civil war," Gore said.
Dismissing calls for any deadline, Gore added, "It's possible that setting a deadline could set in motion forces that would make it even worse. I think that we should analyze that very carefully. My guess is that a deadline is probably not the right approach; but again, you have to weigh that question in the context of how the political decisions are made between the Congress and the executive branch. Sometimes the Congress itself has blunt instruments and limited options to play a role in matters like this."
Wow, I am blown away by Al Gore's sanity and pragmatism. I was vigorously against the war in Iraq, but I am also against a fixed deadline at the moment.
John Kerry's proposal is extremely naive. It is very unrealistic to set a deadline under current condition. It is quite amusing to watch his deadline has already been pushed back from the end of this year to the middle of next year.
John Kerry's approach again proves his lack of political acume. He has, quite frankly, become a ridicule. Democrats should resist the trap set by Rove to offer a so-called 'solution'. The ugly truth is there is NO short term solution to this quagmire. What democrats should do is to pound the GOP repeatedly and ask those war enablers to offer a 'solution'.
Al Gore again proves he is the only grown-up in democratic party. He's been right on Iraq not once, twice but three times if you count in the first Gulf War. John Kerry, has been wrong, wrong and wrong all the way.
