The decision by the Supreme Court upholding gerrymandering makes this a sad day for democracy but underscores the fact that for a true grassroots progressive uprising, we need to take back our state legislatures so we are in control of the drawing board.
In Florida my state, the Republicans as a result of gerrymandering currently hold an 86-34 majority in the State House and a 26-14 majority in the State Senate.
9 of the 20 State Senate seats up in November do not have a Democrat filed. As for the State House, 50 seats have no democrat filed out of 120 total.
This is rediculous. It's bad for democracy. It's bad for America. It's bad for the people. The filing deadline is July 14. We need candidates.
The Florida Democratic Party on the state level is in shambles and we're being bogged down by DC insiders who want us to focus solely on federal races.
We're not going to win majorities in the Florida State Legislatures this time around. Next time looks much better but for now I'll predict we pick up 3-4 seats in the State Senate and 10-15 State House seats this November.
We just need candidates fielded in every race because it's the right thing to do. To see which races have and haven't been filed in yet go to the link below:

If you are a Floridian, I hope you will heed the call.
