This is the second installment of the DailyKos version of
Eat4Today, my blog where we discuss food and eating and the state of the world. I've brought the discussion here so we can encourage each other to get healthy for the election season.
A lot of us struggle with weight and health issues. And we learn more everyday about the interconnectedness of all things and how our diet impacts on our health. Some of us have diabetes and even though we might take medication, we still have to closely watch what we eat. Some of us have other health issues -- and they have specific eating requirements or restrictions also.
And some of us are just overweight or in fear of it.
My story is that a year ago I decided to stop eating between meals and stop taking seconds. Just Today. And try it for a year to see what happens.
And it turned out that by limiting when I ate, I had a lot more freedom about what I ate than I ever imagined a person cold have.
Also, I incorporated things I learned from Weight Watchers about portion control and nutrition (the food pyramid) to gradually develop eating habits that were much healthier. That initial daily commitment is just the start of the changes I've made. But without that commitment, I'd never get to all the other things.
In poking around for ideas about how other people keep weight off I've found this list:
1. Walk 3-4 miles
2. Weigh themselves everyday
3. Participate in a support group (either real life or online)
It looks like a do-able list to me. What do you think?
