What are California voters going to do about Feinstein's primary tomorrow? I promised that the Hayden confirmation vote was the last straw, the very last straw, really and truly this time, but I am afraid that the competition is none too appealing either. Church, the "conservative Democrat," is out. Colleen Fernald, on the face of it, seems acceptable but it looks like, for all her blustering about being "progressive," she is as conservative in Feinstein in certain areas.
Witness her position on immigration, as reported to the Sacramento Bee:
"Immigration: Opposes hiring illegal immigrants. Says anyone entering the United States for any reason should be carefully screened. Believes tighter border security is critical and those here illegally must return home and apply for green cards."
That is unacceptable.
Leaving aside the viability issue, which doesn't trouble me in this primary race - such is the intensity of my anger toward Feinstein - I can't say that Fernald offers much in the way of an alternative.
Anyone else have thoughts, counsel, advice on this issue?
