This could happen to any one of us, folks, and that's what makes it so chilling.
I'll keep this short and sweet because I don't know a lot about it yet. I also have to do everything possible to conceal identities but I'm going to use the male pronoun for ease of reading.
Feel free to read more:
Today I discovered that a regular Joe - you know, the kind of person you see every day, whose habits you understand, etcetera - is Under Official Federal Investigation for the act of surfing onto Al Jazeera and a "chemistry" website on the same day from his work computer.
This person came into his office this morning only to find that he'd been locked out - none of his passwords worked. He phoned IT, who informed him that he was "under investigation" until further notice.
He then worried openly that he had surfed the above-mentioned websites, and explained why. His explanation sits well with me - maybe because I constantly do the same sort of thing... He said that with all the hoopla about the Canadian terrorist-suspect arrests, he wanted to see for himself just how easy it was to use fertlizer to create a bomb. He also wanted to get the other side of the story, and turned to the most popular Arab new source known to the western world: Al Jazeera.
This happened in Canada. The time lapse between his surfing and the spies raising the red flag: less than 24 hours.
And that's where it sits, for now. Sorry I don't have more. I hope that I will get more info on this in the days to come, but who knows? By Monday, this could all be gone like roadkill in August.
And now that I've diaried it here and on written about it on my personal blog - well, maybe I'll be next.
