Netroots-endorsed Fightin' Dem Joe Sestak recently announced that he has raised $700,000 in the 2nd Quarter - beating his opponent, career politician Curt Weldon by almost $300,000!
The 1.12 million raised since Joe entered the race is an unprecedented amount for a Democrat in this District and has shattered all fundraising records in the District. The Democratic candidate for Congress in 2004 raised $27,000, while the previous four Democratic candidates raised only $78,000 combined in the past eight years. By comparison, the Netroots have raised almost $20,000 for Joe just this cycle, for which we are incredibly grateful!
Curt Weldon, a career politician spent 20 years in Washington, DC, raising money, only brought in $400,000! This is extraordinary news. But don't take it from me, here's what Amy Walter from the Cook Political Report had to say:
"For a first-time candidate, it is very unusual to raise that kind of money, particularly against a longtime incumbent."
Joe is showing what Democratic candidates can do when they stand up for their principles and fight for what they believe in. We are proud to say that Joe's message of real security - based on health, education, economic and defense security - is resonating among thousands of Democrats yearning for change.
Thank you again!
