Why do You send Your children to
murder and kidnap each other?
The Koran tells us that You have given us many different teachings, that we may argue the truth. When we arrive in Paradise, You will tell us the Truth. What sort of cruel joke is this?
How could You stand by while we take our pilpul beyond the debating society and into the street, and onto the battlefield? How can You bear to watch, when I, one of the least of Your creatures, cannot?
Why do You provoke Israel beyond reason can bear? Why do You allow Your people Israel to provoke their neighbors? Why do You not, for once, just once, step in as You did in the days of Moses, Miriam, and Aaron and make peace?
I know all too well. You have placed the burden of Your Creation on our shoulders, for good or for ill. But lately I see nothing but ill.
People ignore the evidence of their eyes. We seek to destroy each other. We travel toward our own oblivion at breakneck speed. Won't You just turn our hearts toward Your will? Give us a sign?
If it is Your will that these things happen, if it is Your will that the world I know be destroyed in fire and ice, then let me pray this:
Let it make a better world. Let it build a world where every man can sit under his fig tree. Let it build a world where Your name is praised above all others, in whatever guise You may assume. Let it make a world that is worth the price that must be paid.
And let it begin here. Let it begin now. Make me an instrument of Your will, that I may do what must needs be done. That I may solve the problems that I may solve, and that I may come together with Your children to solve those I cannot solve alone.
G-d, make it all worth it.
