Over the past few weeks I have been trying to explain to the DailyKos folks that making the withdrawl of troops thier major plank in the upcoming elections is a losing strategy and have been screwered royally for it. I tried to explain that taking the focus of our attacks off GOP and BushCo incompetence and mis-managment of the Government/War/debt/Civil liberties/etc towards a strategy touting immediate withdrawl that is not agreed upon by Americans (even Dems can't agree on this strategy) could sqaunder a huge advantage we'll have going into November was foolish and potentially disasterous.
For doing so I have been called a troll, a traitor, an un-informed trouble-maker, a jerk and "Mr Red"(a word-play on my moniker of Mr Blue) by many here, both TU's and others. But an AP-Ipsos poll of 1000 voters seemed to be saying exactly what I've been saying.
Now this could just be my interpretation of the information but to my mind I think it's clear that Americans trust Democrats more than Republicans more and more on every issue except the War in Iraq and the War on Terror and it's foolsih to make the one issue we don't have the full trust of an un-settled and un-happy electorate the main issue.
So why does the loyal left/progressive DKos army insist on making it the banner and shield they fight under??
Because there is too much "idealogical correctness" required here and debate is discouraged unless you happen to agree with the current prevailing docturine.
So read the numbers folks, see how the Republicans have one bright-spot in thier dismal future and notice that is is ONLY on the matters of the war on terror/Iraq...the same issue which seems to dominate here at DKos "pulling out the troops"! Also realize that on every other issue we lead by a good margin and remember that it's foolish to focus on issues that are OUR weakness (according to the poll) instead of the GOP and BushCo weakness.
So again I say the withdrawl is a losing strategy for he Dems this election cycle and DKos and other blogs hammering every pol if they don't agree is just as foolish.
One more time I will take a beating for this opinion I'm sure but I don't care...someone should "witness" to the thought-police types here(not everyone is like that but a bunch!) and point out their argument, moral and humane as it is, is a loser for the Democrats and could end up giving the GOP help with the one issue which they can use to defeat us.
