It seems that every year we get candidates on the ballot who aren't really going out and campaigning, and that the ones that do have to spend much of there time on the phone. So I've been asking myself lately, how can the netroots support the grassroots? This is what I came up with.
As you may know, I left my job managing a Congressional race to run for the State Assembly in a swing district in Wisconsin. To me, grassroots is the most important part of campaigning. That's why I spend a lot of time knocking on doors. There are many candidates that don't go out and knock doors, which is by far the best way to connect with voters. I can understand why it is so discouraging, as sometimes I dread walking out my front door and pounding the pavement. So I've set up a system to give me some encouragement, and if it is successful I want to create a web site that does the same thing for all Dem. candidates.
I call it the "dime-a-door" program. Activists can sign up to sponsor a day or a range of dates, and they pledge to donate a dime for every door that the candidate knocks on. It's really pretty simple. If we created a site for all Dem candidates, we could automate the process and make it very easy for them. Check out my site and let me know what you think!
