Hello,
There is probably a better way to do this here, but I don't know what it would be, so I'll put this in a diary.
You folks seem more capable than me to actually be productive when it comes to putting your ideas on the web.
I'm afraid for now I'm only an idea man.
So here's what I'd like someone to write about.
Today on NewsMax, it has a story reporting that there are 10,000 open terrorism investigations by the FBI.
The point of the article is to obviously make us feel like there is a significant threat out there. The fact that opening a case isn't defined, and what's involved (or not) in such an opening isn't stated. http://www.newsmax.com/...
According to the FBI website there are some 12,515 Special Agents working for the FBI. As I understand it, a Special Agent has to be in charge of an investigation, as that person is the manager of the case working at the direction of the assigned U.S. Attorney. http://www.fbi.gov/...
I have an email into my local office to try and find out how many open cases there are in the FBI system. Someone with access to budget reports may be able to find out sooner than my local FBI office. I'm interested to know what 10,000 cases means in the FBI system. Is 10,000 1% of all open cases or 90%?
Somehow, the 10,000 number in the NewsMax story appeals to a Republican conservative audience. Given what I have been able to figure out, what this number means to me is that 5 out of every 6 FBI agents is working on a terrorism case.
It seems to me this is an incredible misallocation of resources. I'd expect individuals interested in good government and lean-and-mean government would agree.
So if anyone wants to take this story idea and run with it, I'd appreciate it.
Here's to hoping you have a Blue day!
