Declaring that he believes the situation in Iraq has devolved into a civil war, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday he plans to try to bring the war back up for debate on the Senate floor.

Bob Stevenson, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, told CNN, "We need to get the defense appropriations bill done and I would hope they would cooperate in getting the appropriations bill done to fund our troops, rather than engaging in partisan political games." - CNN
Hold the phone Bob, the Republican controlled U.S. Senate has been engaged for the past 6 weeks in "partisan political games" over issues as absurd as gay marriage, flag burning, and even the war in Iraq. Shame on you.
To call for a clear robust discourse over Iraq is the only responsible action to undertake. It's the Republican dereliction of duty to act that forces Democrats to try and clean up the mess. The very first thing we need is for our leaders to be honest about how we got here, what has happened, and how best to move forward.
It's not that the Senate Republicans are incompetent; it's that they are crooked and lazy. Does that help explain why the only sensible leadership is coming from Harry Reid and the Democrats? The nation will listen, the public wants this debate because the futile and naive administration gamble in the Middle East is a disaster; and to call it anything less is to be caught lying. The Republicans must be held to answer for this crisis.
I really don't understand your interest in quashing debate over Iraq, other than to save your own sorry political skin; and man, I think it's a little late for that, don't you?
