I recently wrote both Brownback and Roberts concerning their votes on the minimum wage issue.
The following is what I received in reply from Sen. Brownback.
Thank you for contacting me regarding increases in the minimum wage. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me on this important issue. There is no better guide to making tough decisions than hearing from the people whom I serve.
I have voted against minimum wage increases in the past because I believe Kansans need more job opportunities at better wages. A large number of nationally renowned economists believe that raising the minimum wage will eliminate a large number of jobs nationwide. I would consider supporting an increase in the minimum wage if such a measure were accompanied by tax cuts that would stimulate economic growth, offsetting resulting job losses, and protect small businesses, many of which operate on narrow profit margins. Small businesses are the engines for growth for entry-level and minimum-wage-paying jobs, and I believe thier success is crucial to the success of kansas and to the United states.
The real key to increasing wages is to cut litigation, taxation, regulation and manipulation that originates in Washington. Only then will the economy grow.
So far I have spotted 2 items that I will dispute in my reply, that jobs are lost and that tax cuts stimulate the economy. Any other ideas for my reply to him?
