Let's just call it sour grapes.
The Bush administrations glorifying of elections and democracy to promote freedom and liberty to all citizens of the world and end global tyranny has backfired. There were elections in Iraq, in Palestine, and in Lebanon. Talk about sore losers. Accept the results of the elections and get over it.
If you recall, that little talking point. Bush won the election. Get over it.
Hamas won the election in Palestine, so get over it. Oops no we were for democracy before we were against it.
Lebanon had elections and was a new democracy. Yet you choose this country to fight your proxy war. Those that justify such destruction do not hold each and every life as precious.
When you hold Democracy on a pedastal to support your hardline ideological claims for pre-emtpive attacks against nations, you should mean it.
The Cedar revolution brought Democracy to the beautiful country known as Lebanon. This new baby democracy was a year and a half old. Now destroyed. The citizens simmering with hatred as their families are attacked with weapons made in the US of A.
I oft hear cited how long it took our own country to write a constitution and establish a system of government.
When you say you believe in Democracy you should mean it. If you have no intention of respecting the results of elections in the Middle East that elects, gasp, muslems into the government, then you are part of the problem.
Israel has a right to exist and so does Lebanon. It is the inequity of force and interfering powers that have created this mess.
Instead of letting markets work to make Lebanon stronger and economically independent, it now has nothing. This will serve to further radicalize the people, who might have been counted as our friends.
Israel will have two failed states as neighbors. Palestine and Lebanon, both of which just had elections. What is the message? We believe in Democracy only if we get the results we like.
We only support elections if the candidate we like wins? Well maybe that is the message.
I remember the elections of 2,000 and you didn't like the results then either.
Al Gore won. Sour grapes indeed!
