Since Rep. Ed Case has abandoned his House seat to run against Sen. Akaka, the race to claim his seat in the House is on. A unique candidate forum is being hosted by Progressive Democrats of Hawaii (PD-H,) a group of local democrats committed to social justice and political change, and the Hawaii Chapter of Americans for Democratic Action. The Forum was written up in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin (
http://starbulletin.com/...)
The format will be a form of "Political Speed Dating!", a candidate forum to inform voters about important issues and maximize interaction between candidates and residents in order to make better informed choices for the upcoming Primary election.
Eight [now 9!] of Hawaii's 10 Democratic candidates for the 2nd U. S. Congressional District are scheduled to be at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Park, at 6:30 p.m . this Wednesday (7.26.06.)
Candidates will take questions from the community and answer a list of questions (which can be viewed at http://pd-hawaii.com/ ) on issues that include, the future of America's role in the Middle East, the U.S. healthcare system, Free Trade and the U.S. economy, poverty and voters rights.
Candidates scheduled to be at the forum include, (in alphabetical order,) Hanalei Aipoalani, Nestor Garcia, Mazie Hirono, Colleen Hanabusa, [add: Clayton Hee], Gary Hooser, Matt Matsunaga, Ron Menor, Brian Schatz. (Efforts were made to invite all Democratic candidates.)
