I received a little missive today from my congressman, Bob Ney. On official stationary, prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense. I learned what a grave thread illegal immigration was to Ohio. To quote...
"Just in the last month, there have been three documented instances in the 18th Congressional District where local law enforcement officials apprehended illegal aliens, but then were ordered by federal immigration officials to let the illegal aliens go-a practice known as "catch and release." Illegal immigration has become a major problem-not just in border states like California and Arizona, but now even in our own backyard."
more on the flip.
Now for a bit of background. Ohio has one of the lowest percentage of Hispanics in the population in the US. Clocking in at just 2.2% (
source) while the national average is 14.4%. Even in Alaska Hispanics make up 4.9% or the population. In the 18th specifically Jackson county comes in with the highest percentage population of .9%. Most of the 18th has hispanic percentage of .5% or less.
Now the money section. Quite brave for a man that is facing indictment and a probable long prison sentence.
"Our border have become too porous and the Executive Branch has become incapable of dealing with the growning population of illegal immigrants. Left unchecked, immigration is a social expense and is a risk to our national security. This is unaccepatable, and we must reform the system.
Let me begin by saying that I oppose any immigration amnesty or temporary worker programs for illegal aliens."
The letter then goes on to document his cosponsoring of several pieces of Jingoistic legislation such as the English Language Unity Act of 2005, The Alient Gang Removal Act of 2005 and the Clear Law Enforcement for Criminal Alien Removal.
Tag line for the whole spiel... Immigrating to the United States is a privilege, not a right!
Sorry if this is rough or crude. I have typed up more than a comment in a couple of years.
