First a hat tip to RenaRF and Little Lulu for their excellent posts on this story initially. I bring this up again because like a lot of Kossacks I didn't pay much attention to it because I thought it was "just another Diebold rant", but it isn't. It is as serious as a heart attack as the saying goes.
The full impact of the story didn't register until I saw and interview with Brad Friedman of Brad Blogg on the Lou Dobb's program and then it hit home.
Excerpt from the transcript:
"KITTY PILGRIM, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice over): In an election, wireless voting machines are at the biggest risk for voter fraud. According to the recently released Brennan report, someone with a hand-held device like a Palm Pilot or other personal digital device could alter a vote in a computer on Election Day.

As RenaRF has pointed out, Representative Rush Holt (D) of New Jersey has put forward HR 550 to cut this problem off at the knees. It is my sincerest hope that some of you will take the time this 4th of July to contact your representatives and tell them to support this Act now because as Rep. Holt points out on his web site:
"Rep. Holt's Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2005 (H.R. 550) would address the key issues raised by the Brennan Center report. H.R. 550 currently has 192 bipartisan co-sponsors and is awaiting a hearing by the House Administration Committee. Holt called for rapid action on the bill.
"The vulnerabilities outlined in this report are serious, but they are also correctable," said Holt. "Time is of the essence -- the Brennan Center urges action in time for the November elections. H.R. 550 provides us with the means to make these machines less vulnerable to manipulation and their results truly auditable in recount situations. Congress should pass this bill and help end any doubts about our commitment to transparent and auditable elections."
