This is not Lamont vs. Lieberman. Olberman vs. O'Reilly. I am not a Fighting Dem running for Congress. This diary is not about Tom Delay, Jack Abramoff or North Korea.
It's about a local guy putting it all out there for a local race.
It's about electing a diehard blue candidate in a crimson red area.
It's about helping progessive candidates at the grass roots level.
I wish that in this race that my stance against the Iraq War mattered.
I wish that in my city voters would vote for me because I support Universal Health Care.
I wish that my support for equal rights in marraige would help me win votes.
But I'm running in a non-partisan race for City Council. I'm willing to stand up, put it all out there and run for office against three entrenched incumbents who are out of touch and out of ideas.
My name is Joe Shaw and I'm running for City Council in Huntington Beach California. I am a small business owner and I'm a progressive running for office in the 24th most conservative city in the country.
In my race local issues matter. Candidates like me are important in Dean's 50 state strategy. A candidate with my strengths could serve on City Council with distinction and eventually take on a conservative officeholder at a higher level and win.
I know it's not as sexy as supporting Ned Lamont or Francine Busby, but I have a plan to win and I need just as much help as they do.
In my local race, I need to raise at least $50,000. I am nearly one-fifth of the way there. In the last weeks of July, I will need $2200 for my ballot statement. As a longtime member of dailykos, I'd like your help.
Maryscott O'Conner helped me get a banner ad on her website. A city councilman in a nearby city gave me the max contribution he could, $300. martianchronic sent me $50. Thank you all!
If you visit my website, you won't see anything about Iraq, Universal Healthcare or gay marraige, because I am running in a local non-partisan race.
What you will find is an honest guy, who is running on the issue of empowering residents and neighborhoods at a greassroots level.
I am running for City Council to give a voice to small business owners frustrated with City Hall Bureaucracy, and to give a voice to our neighborhoods who feel that City Hall doesn't listen to them and who want to have a say in what goes on in their neighborhoods.
I am also running because we need more business minded people on our City Council, more people with common sense on City Council and more people willing to speak their mind, be honest and state the truth.
If you are local to my area, please visit my website and become a volunteer. We have an immediate need for a volunteer to staff a voter registration table at my business every weekend.
And if you aren't in my area, please consider helping me out with a little change.
Thanks kossacks!
