OK, so the title was meant to grab attention.
My real issue is that I'm still having trouble comprehending the blatantly successful distraction thrown out by BushCo in the form of the "Immigration Debate." It is truly amazing to me that the masses took the whole thing hook, line and sinker, but I'm equally shocked at the number of Kossacks who are jumping on the bandwagon. The Immigration Debate is the perfect wedge issue in a time when there are so many more important issues that need to be dealt with. Follow be below the fold as I ask the one simple question that proves this is a minor issue
I have a simple question I like to ask those who are so concerned with the "Immigration Issue", particularly as it pertains to Mexico:
Can those opposed to immigration give me a personal example of how the illegal immigrants have negatively affected their livelihood?
I've seen some amazing drivel here coming from Kossacks. I'll spare the poster's identity, but can you believe this came from a Kossack regarding south of the Border immigrants?
swamp our health care system, destroy our unions, wreck our entire infrastructure, basically just turn this country into a third world shit hole
Is this straight from the Fox Channel "two minute hate" or what? It's disturbing how with so many issues diminishing our country the Repubs are able to harness simmering xenophobia and nationalism for their benefit.
Now granted, I have come to appreciate some issues in immigration that might be of real concern, especially concerning H1-B visa quotas and skilled foreign workers, but I simply don't see the proof that low level labor influx is destroying our country.
But every time I get into a discussion with a anti-immigrant type, when asked to provide a personal real-world example of Mexicans affecting their livelihood, I never get a cogent reply. I dare somebody out there to give me one.
