Dear Senator Boxer,
In general I'm very grateful for all your hard work and for your progressive stances on public policy. Unfortunately, I'm under the impression that you are supporting Joe Lieberman's candidacy in Connecticut to the point of damaging the ability of progressive democrats to caucus effectively.
Perhaps I'm mistaken about this, and if so I'd be happy to be corrected. But I write to underscore that I -- and I think many other progressive democrats in California -- are watching Connecticut closely and view Joe Lieberman primarily as an enabler of the Republican administration, not as a valuable member of the democratic party. I make no claims about Senator Lieberman's past contributions; they may have been valuable and admirable. But his actions now require that we do what we can to remove him from office.
I hope you will withdraw your support from him because fears among his Democrat colleagues appear also to be weakening the ability of the Democratic leadership in the Senate to lead the country on issues which highlight his allegiance to the Bush administration.
Thank you again for your generally progressive positions and hard work,
