When folks can get outside SF or Cambridge or their local NARAL meetings, they would realize in many parts of the country, particularly in the rural areas where Dems are now an endangered species, pro-life Dems are a majority and that even in a Democratic primary, being pro-life is a WINNING position.
Last week, Missouri had its primary. in the 9th House District, which contains the liberal Columbia (university town) but also a few rural counties, the pro-life farmer candidate won, and credited his stance in part for his victory over a pro-choice Dem opponent:

and these are not DINO candidates either! they stand up for family farmers against Monsanto and Cargill, they've opposed the devastating Medicaid cuts of Matt Blunt and they believe in taking care of children once they are born, unlike the GOP. I am glad and happy to have these candidates as part of our party, since they are invisible to most bloggers or are shunned and scorned by the Kim Gandys of the world.
This state house seat was to replace Wes Shoemyer, who is now running for the State Senate in an open seat being vacated by a Republican. it is the type of seat we need if we are going to make inroads again in rural America. Wes is endorsed by the Right to Life and NRA--that means he'll never be a blogosphere darling, even though he's been one of the most courageous voices standing up to Monsanto in Missouri and fighting against corporate hog farming (CAFOs). He's also a strong supporter of US Senate candidate Claire McCaskill.

Rural Dems, pro-life Dems, minorities, blue collar Dems tend to not have a presence in the liberal blogosphere, who purports to call themselves the "real grassroots" Dems. Never mind that Lamont won only because of his winning secular, upscale affluent white voters, while Lieberman won among blue collars and those w/o a college degree. The point of this diary is to show that there are other parts of the Democratic coalition, outside the overwhelming pro-choice blogosphere, who are good Dems and just as vital a part of the Dem party.
