Hersh has reported that the Bush Administration was involved with planning Israel's attacks and viewed the campaign as a prelude to a US attack on Iran. Many on the right and in the MSM will overlook how the Bush Administration has actively encouraged anti-Americanism in the Middle East by promoting such a tired, failed strategy as strategic bombing.
But the revelation that the Bush Administration was involved in the planning of the attacks raises another disturbing question that even the most bellicose of the Neo-Cons might admit reveals severely misplaced priorities within the Bush White House:
If the Bush Administration was involved in planning the attacks, why was it utterly unprepared to get US citizens out of Lebanon once the bombings began???
At the time the bombings began, there were
25,000 US nationals in Lebanon. Yet, the US was behind all European nations and even many South American nations like Brazil in providing services to bring its citizens to safety.
Given that Bush and Cheney were involved in planning the attacks, why weren't they prepared to provide an escape route for our citizens?
Their failure speaks volumes about the priorities of the current neo-conservative government.
If it plans an attack that puts the lives of American citizens at risk and does not protect those Americans, why should we trust the Bush Administration to protect American lives at home?
