MoveOn has just kicked off a
new campaign to write letters to the editor opposing the GOP's politics of terror. Here's mine, just sent to half a dozen papers:
It is heartening to see Democrats stand up against the outrageous politicizing of terror by Dick Cheney, Joe Lieberman, and other Bush-friendly politicians.
The accusation that Connecticut voters are al Qaeda sympathizers is toxic, authoritarian rhetoric. Democratic leaders and voters are working for smarter national security policies, and have recognized that our endless occupation of Iraq strengthens, rather than weakens, the terrorists.
If anyone is "pro-terror," it would seem to be the Republican party. They certainly prefer a terrorized, more easily manipulated populace.
It was a great, strong Democrat who told us that "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Today's Republicans actively instill fear in us, to strengthen their own grasp on power. In response to their specious labeling of Democrats as "Defeatocrats", I dub the GOP "Terrorpublicans".
If you like my neologism, please feel free to use it! We need to work hard at pointing out how the Repubs exploit terror for their own benefit.
