MissLaura
mused a bit on on UIDs last Thursday.
Hi, I'm gloriana, and my UID is 92749.
(response from the congregation: hi, gloriana!)
It must seem strange for those who have been here a while to look out across the mesa and see a range of unfamiliar faces. It would freak me out, too. You get used to a place being a certain way after you've inhabited it; you get used to the people who reside there. There's a certain comfort level in knowing what's ahead, what's in the place you've come to know.
And then things change. Sometimes what's in the place is so good, so true, so passionate, that others feel the need to join; to lend their voice and helping hands.
Not always for the better, although it can be so. Sometimes the change is so revolutionary that it fundamentally alters one's perspective.
The increased membership will cause change. Not all for the good, but I'm betting most of it will be. Folks, we are legion. We need to start congregating in places like this. Otherwise we are alone against the night.
I look upon my high UID as a reflection of how long it took me to find this place, rather than a reflection of my abilities or relative worth to the community.
It is a reflection of the strength of this community that the numbers increase. Nothing more or less.
I am so happy to be here. I am so happy I found you. Please don't let my high UID cause you to think I may be less than what I am, or what anyone else is. Or what we are.

Onto the comments for this evening:
First, Ambrosius chimes in with these lovelies:
emptywheel on the challenge that caucuses present for working people
tiggers thotful spot starts off a good thread listing the sins of the Bush Administration. Not that we need a reminder, but I like the fact that they aren't just saying "they are dumb."
b2witte points out why processed meat is just plain gross, and why the FDA isn't necessarily crazy.
Buffalo Girl's up next:
Some interesting perspectives from the "Democrats are in trouble! Ohmygod, we're all gonna die!" diary:
The former Republican
The Congressional Candidate
The Grassroots Mom
The Grassroots Mom #2
The Activist
The Activist #2
The Accused...
And lastly, my picks for the day:
grayslady expounds on the state of the Democratic party in the wake of Ned Lamont's victory (and the furor over Lieberman's refusal to face the facts). In another diary, Buzzer has these thoughts along the same lines.
matt le w and CJnyc have an interesting discussion regarding higher-saturation bandwidth usage and net neutrality
serrano sings the praises of Judge Anna Diggs Taylor
Sprinkles gives us another Lorenzo update -- this time befriending John Edwards!
rserven has this to say about offensive speech
Loquatrix: Just get a god damned warrant. Damned skippy.

rktect and the costs of the current administration

Roddy McCorley makes a cogent comment on the idea that national security is a new topic, followed up with this expansion. A lot good discussion follows.
LithiumCola has some odd recreational ideas. As well as a fabulous rant about Bush's so-called "War on Terrorism"
HeyMikey has this to say regarding oft-repeated slurs against Christianity, in niteskolar's excellent rant/diary on the same subject.
sgoldinger on the Bush administration's supposed incompetence
Elwood Dowd snaps a brilliant 5 word snark to Bob Johnson's reply to Philly Gal's pootie/pottie pic
mkfox on responses for the "As Long As It Takes" reply
And shpilk gives us this reasoning behind why Joe matters
