Darcy Burner, Democratic candidate for the 8th District of Washington State, is fueling the enthusiasm for the change in direction Washington D.C. will take this fall. As T. Haskins at The Blue State writes:
If you are looking for a good example of the anti-Republican political shift that is going on in mainstream America, look no further than Bellevue, Washington -- just 10 minutes away from where I live. Bellevue and the area surrounding it usually votes Republican, and did in 2004 when they elected GOP Dave Reichert to U.S. Congress. However, with the war in Iraq and high gas prices here at home, residents of that district are now realizing they are not getting what they asked for when they headed to the polls to help reelect President Bush.

Darcy's campaign is driving towards victory with two great pieces of news this week...
CQPolitics has moved this race into the "Leans Republican" column. This is great news. Even the folks who watch the War Room's big board in DC have figured out this race is significant. More support and more footwork will help Darcy drive this seat over to the Democratic side of the aisle.
Republican officials scoffed when Darcy Burner -- a former executive with computer software giant Microsoft but a first-time candidate for public office -- emerged as the Democratic challenger to freshman GOP Rep. Dave Reichert in Washington's 8th District. The Republicans contended Burner was a weak choice to take on Reichert, who won a close 2004 race in the politically competitive suburban Seattle district on the strength of his long tenure as the elected sheriff of King County.
But Burner's strong debut as a campaign fundraiser and her growing list of endorsements from key Democratic support groups have made it harder for her opposition to argue that she is a "B-list" recruit. Though Reichert appears to maintain at least a slight edge in the fall contest, CQPolitics.com has changed its rating on the race to its more competitive
Leans Republican category from Republican Favored.

This is on top of news yesterday that the Washington Sierra Club has endorsed Darcy Burner.
Mercer Island, WA - Nearly 30 leaders and members from the Cascade Chapter of the Sierra Club joined Congressional candidate Darcy Burner today to announce their endorsement of her run for Washington's 8th district.
The Sierra Club is one of the nation's oldest environmental organizations with more than 770,000 members nationwide. Washington's 8th district is home to
approximately 3,300 members. They are one of the few environmental organizations that do endorsements.

This
campaign is hot as in East Coast Hot. With only 98 days left this campaign is going to get hotter!
Over the weekend the Darcy Burner campaign supported the Bellevue, Washington area's Democratic Reunion. I've written about that in a prior diary here.

Help support Darcy Burner!
Volunteer if you can.
Contribute if you cannot
volunteer. Ask John Edwards to help at least, as he has Darcy Burner on his list of candidates he may visit in the next 97 days. More netroots support will help move that CQPolitics meter from "Leans Republican" to "Leans Democratic."
