Over at MyDD, Matt Stoller
wonders why otherwise good Democrats aren't getting tough with their opponents over their connections to Bush and the War in Iraq. He writes in regards to Darcy Burner's opening television salvo:
Notice anything missing? I-R-A-Q
Notice anything else missing? Bush.
I think Matt will be happy with the latest media from the Patricia Madrid campaign, WashingtonWilsonWatch.com. More on the flip.
The Patricia Madrid for Congress campaign recently launched
WashingtonWilsonWatch.com - a website that exposes Rep. Heather Wilson for who she is: a rubber stamp for the Bush Administration. In addition to connecting Wilson to Bush and the Republicans on a variety of issues, the site also focuses on
Wilson's continued support for the Iraq War and her inability to ask the tough questions about why we're there (even though she sits on the House Intelligence Committee!).
The site includes quotes from Wilson about the war like "I think we've made quite a bit of progress in the past eight months," said in November 2005 and "...a House investigation into intelligence failures leading up to the war in Iraq would be a distraction" also said in November 2005.
There are some great quotes from President Bush and Vice President Cheney that tie Wilson to them and their policies. These include President Bush saying, "I'm close to Heather..."
In addition to highlighting Wilson's ties to President Bush and the Iraq War, the site also ties Wilson to special interests including Oil and Gas. Halliburton is currently in the "Donor Spotlight" section because Wilson is one of the top recepients of Halliburton money in the entire U.S. House. In addition to Halliburton, Wilson's taken nearly $400,000 from oil and gas interests including checks from from PACs connected to BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, Sunoco and many more.
Please, visit WashingtonWilsonWatch.com and let us know what you think about the site in the comments. We plan on continuing to update and deepen the site through Election Day. I (a staffer) will stick around for a bit and answer your questions to the best of my ability!
