I know many among us have issues, from time to time, with Nancy Pelosi, but credit must be given where credit is due and she really hit it out of the ballpark on Letterman tonight.
None of the usual awkward moments politicians often have on these late-night comedy shows. She came across really really well and with a MESSAGE!
Some highlights:
- Brought up the fact that Bush is, once again, talking about his Social Security Privatization Phase-Out plan and what this could mean if the Rethuglicans hold congress. She used all the right words and hammered it home.
- Talked uniformly about a re-deployment and mocked Bush's Cowboy diplomacy (Cowboy Diplomacy giving Cowboys a bad name). Received thunderous applause.
- Skillfully skirted the ever-present Hillary Clinton for President question and whether she is likeable beyond the blue states, electable...blah blah blah.
- Received great response talking about how we need to make Bush a lame-duck.
- Spoke about her family, her role as a mother, growing up in a Democratic family in Baltimore. It really put a different face on her as a human being and softened the tone from the usual political drivel of hedging and dodging.
- Reiterated how we are NOT safer because of Bush - used a good analogy showing how Bush's illegal spying program is like tapping your neighbors phone to feel safe while leaving all the windows open in your house.
Audience was VERY supportive of all she had to say and Letterman was great with her. You can tell he (along with the rest of us) has had enough of this do nothing Congress.
Hopefully Crooks and Liars will have it posted. If you you're on the West Coast, don't miss it. It was good TV.
Pelosi deserves credit where it is due and she did a bang-up job!
Kudos Nancy!
