has Republican luminaries such as Phyllis Schlafly, Richard Viguerie and Pat Buchanan damning him as a traitor to the right wing cause over his amnesty plan for illegal immigrants.
More under the fold.
His opponent, Democrat Barry Welsh

also opposes the Spence plan,

but in somewhat different terms.
The district is considered about as safe a Republican district as there is, but a spasm of anti-illegal immigrant ads might bring on an upset, if only because a lot of Republicans stay home sitting on their hands.
The issue of illegal immigration cuts across party lines, with the incumbent always being at risk. For the Indiana Sixth, Spence is seen as hard-core pro-illegal.
Hard-core pro-illegal Democrats tired of being in the minority need to hold their noses and send Spence modest contributions. Strange bedfellows: we got Phyllis Schlafly, Richard Viguerie and Pat Buchanan on our side!
