I got annoyed when
a diary promised a poll on Lebanon's right to exist and then didn't ask any questions about it. I thought I could do better. Let me know how you feel about this important issue.
I'm not an anarchist who doesn't think any state should be allowed to exist, I'm not a fanatic Zionist who doesn't think any Arab states should exist, and I'm not a fanatic pan-Islamlist who thinks there should be a pan-Islamic superstate, but I do think we have to remember that not everyone in the world actually does accept the right of Lebanon to exist. That's not just anarchists or Zionists or pan-Islamists. Plenty of Shi'ite fanatics would like to have Lebanon erased. There are pan-Arabists who think there should be one big United Arab Republic (anyone else remember the UAR?) and all kinds of others who would like to redraw the map of the Middle East. Maybe a few who would just like to redraw Lebanon's borders. How about you take the time to tell us how you would like to socially engineer the Middle East. Not that anyone will pay any attention to you.
