Air America, now on 1150 AM in New York, is moving WAYYY down the dial to 1600 on Sept. 1. Almost to the point of radio oblivion. (And why is a left-wing station at the extreme right of the radio dial?) This news is reported by its own advertising and several news blurbs, from what I can find.
These blurbs say that 1600 is a weaker signal and that it weakens at night. This is not a problem since evenings on Air America consist of the Satellite Sisters (awful. They replaced Mike Malloy, but I don't know why). And then from midnight to 5:30 a.m. it goes to local African-American program (Very progressive, of course, and I heard many Martin Luther King and Malcolm X speeches that were very inspiring.)
Reports say the waters were poisoned by financial shenanigans at the birth of the station and recent poor rating numbers.
So progressive radio is still alive in NY although weakened. And there are still other outlets, such as streaming it on the Net and XM radio, but both cost money.
So I can still freeload because I listen during the day, like I think most other people do.
It's just too bad that progressives are bad business people. However, I believe as the country turns, the market will cry out for more progressive programming.
