So, in my continuing efforts to understand the right-wing media, I tuned into Sean Hannity's first hour (3-4 p.m.) on the radio.
I had to turn it off when a caller mentioned the Connecticut Senate race and compared the possible ouster of Joe Lieberman in then primary with Ralph Reed's loss in the Georgia primary last month.
Hannity dismissed Reed's defeat as the work of "an overzealous media."
I had to turn it off at this point, because again, Hannity hides his head in the sand with his right-wing buddies who do wrong.
We all have to remember, Hannity rose to fame by defending convicted felon Oliver North as a wonderful patriot. He overlooks the fact that his buddy North is a convicted felon (the conviction was overturned by an appeals court judge), but he was convicted by a jury.
Now he defends Reed, who took millions from casino interests and Jack Abramoff to lobby against casino gambling. His defense in his campaign -- he did not know where the funding bucks were from.
Now Hannity dismisses this with Reed being defeated because of the overzealous media. Let's ask a few questions -- Did the media stuff the millions into Reed's pockets? Did the media tell Ralph to use the money to develop anti-gambling campaigns? Did the media tell Ralph how to squirm and worm his way out with his silly excuses in the campaign?
The media simply did its job by telling the story of a sleazy little man who used God to get his way and who should be shunned by the right-thinking Christian community.
As for Hannity, expect his to continue to defend criminals, because he has a lot of them on the right to defend.
