In order to truly be successful this year we need six Democratic pickups. The possible states we could take are
Tennessee,
Pennsylvania,
Rhode Island,
Montana,
Missouri,
Ohio,
Nevada,
Virginia, and
Texas. These are exciting times, but we all must do our part for those campaigns.
I'm asking everybody here to spread their bets a little. We have a really good chance with Casey, Tester, Brown, Whitehouse, and McCaskill, but that would leave us with a tied Senate and Senator Cheney (Cheney can be Vice President, Foreign Policy Chief, Torture Advocate, AND Senator all at the same time!) would be breaking all the ties. We need one more and we need to hedge our bets against an upset in any of the above five races. I'm challenging/begging/imploring y'all to broaden your horizons. Jack Carter has run a great campaign so far and has gotten recognition here on the blogs mostly due to his daughter
Sarah's work. Jim Webb has
gotten good name recognition here and I'll attribute that primarily to his balls of steel and the excellent narrative of Reagan's former Secretary of the Navy crossing the aisle.
This leaves Radnofsky and Ford. Harold Ford Jr. has the name recognition and the funding. He is a moderate Democrat who voted for the bankruptcy bill and supports the Federal Marriage Amendment. Take a look at his website and see if you support him or not, if so, throw your support behind his campaign! Barbara Ann Radnofsky is running in a conservative state that currently has Republicans in all statewide offices. However, there are indications that Texans are getting fed up with the people in power. Bush has negative approval ratings in Texas and three people are challenging Governor Rick "Good Hair" Perry. Kay Bailey Hutchison has made a series of mistakes lately (her statement that perjury is just a technicality, that eliminating the estate tax helps the poor and middle class, and her refusal to condemn the KKK.) Kay is refusing to debate her opponent and obviously expects to cruise to a victory. Barbara Ann Radnofsky's campaign is releasing Barbara's daily diaries from the campaign trail and writing diaries here, but the campaign hasn't gotten traction or name recognition either on the blogs or mainstream media. Take a look at her website and see if you can throw your support behind her campaign (they're doing videos now too).
Any help you can give to these Senate campaigns would (I'm sure) be appreciated by these candidates. Opinions are being formed now and time is running out for our chance to change people's minds. Get off your asses and go support a candidate for Senate who can give us the majority! Even if that candidate doesn't get elected, you've made their opponent spend money they wouldn't have otherwise spent. Think long haul here rather than short term and realize that we need a lot of little victories before we start to see a real change in this country.
