Somewhere there is a diary in which
zencomix mentions that the Democratic politicians need to get up off their respective butts and stop playing second base. Someone else chimed in that being in the field position was inherently defensive...and no actual points are scored.
In part, I agree with them.
When you are are in the field position, point scoring isn't going to happen.
However, what you can do is to try and keep the other team from racking up points thereby trouncing you...roundly.
And that, my friends, is where Keith Olbermann and others like him come in.
This guy is a pitcher. A serious one. And he is not afraid of tossing the random curve ball (sorry...it fits here) into the mix in order to make the batter swing at air...lots of it.
In the past, he's pitched some fast balls that made their way not only past the batter but also into thousands of homes...and even onto the floor of the Senate as Leader Reid lauded Keith's strike out of SecDef Rumsfeld while calling for the replacement of Mr. Rumsfeld...was it just a week or so ago?
Tonight's no exception:
History teaches us that nearly unanimous support of a government cannot be taken away from that government by its critics.
It can only be squandered by those who use it not to heal a nation's wounds, but to take political advantage.
Terrorists did not come and steal our newly-regained sense of being American first, and political, fiftieth. Nor did the Democrats. Nor did the media. Nor did the people.
The President--and those around him--did that.
And he uses the 'I' word.
I only used part of the statement. Best to go read it. And stay tuned to tonight's Countdown.
