Today Chris Matthews of MSNBC's HARDBALL offered Michael Steele and Ben Cardin the opportunity to debate live on his show tonight. Apparently Mr. Steele is not ready to concede that Ben Cardin has won the Democratic nomination for Senate and cited that he would not debate Cardin, because the election results have not been certified.
Here is what Ben Cardin's press secretary Oren Shur had to say -
Baltimore Sun:
"It's very clear that despite Michael Steele's rhetoric, he does not want to truly debate Ben Cardin on the Bush agenda and the issues facing Maryland families,"
...
"There are real differences Michael Steele does not want the people of Maryland to know about."
Steele's handlers know that he's a lose cannon when he gets out on his own and are probably petrified of the fact that he will eventually be forced to debate Congressman Cardin. How many more Holocaust/Stem-Cell comparisons can his campaign endure?
They'll need weeks to prep this guy and that is why he bypassed the opportunity contrast his positions on the issues with those of Congressman Cardin's.
