Dan Ponder Jr., a Democrat-turned-Republican state lawmaker who Cathy Cox asked to lead her bid to be the Democratic nominee for Governor has
endorse Republican incumbent Sonny Perdue in the general election over the Democratic nominee, current Lt. Governor Mark Taylor.
First, I was rather shocked that Cathy Cox asked a Republican to lead her failed bid to be the Democratic nominee. Okay, maybe I was not that surprised. After all she is the Secretary of State that brought the Diebold voting machine into Georgia and remained adamantly opposed to any type of paper trail, until late in her campaign.
Second, I was shocked that a Republican running a failed Democratic campaign would turn and endorse the Republican in the primary. Okay, maybe I was not shocked. Who did not see that coming? I question even having a Republican running a Democratic campaign. How hard was he going to work if she got the nomination?
Third, why does Democrat Cathy Cox now think highly of Dan Ponder after he endorsed the Republican Sonny Cox? I was bewildered to read that she made that statement. Okay, maybe not bewildered. Many people in Georgia had always felt that Cox was too close to the GOP, and some felt she would eventually switch parties in the future.
I have to say, I did like the response from the Taylor campaign:
"Whoop-de-do. You got a Republican flak endorsing a crumby Republican governor," [Taylor's campaign spokesman Rick] Dent said.
Cox has been a rather sore loser. She has refused to make any public appearances with Lt. Governor Taylor despite repeated invitations from the Taylor camp. I think it would be nice if she supported her party's nominee. I understand it was a bruising primary, but it is time for everybody to be an adult and help the party.
