This amazing website is up again:
http://www.electoral-vote.com:2006/
Two years ago (!), I became addicted to the site's daily updates to a corny map of the U.S. predicting who would win which electoral votes in the presidential contest. Subsequently, I discovered that I wasn't the only addict.
Now the map is back, corny looking as ever, this time with predictions for who will win which Congressional races -- all based on the latest reliable poll numbers.
I heartily recommend that everyone bookmark the site.
But please read my warning on the flip.
This map is entertaining, but don't let it become simply a form of entertainment!
Rather, try to keep in mind who is "producing" this map -- not some Hollywood studio, not ABC, but ... us; we make the map.
And there are 6 weeks left between now and the November elections, an eternity in electoral politics.
At best Democrats are barely within striking distance of taking back both chambers. At worst, we are about to be just as disppointed as we were in 2002.
I love this map. But this isn't the time for any of us just to sit back and start watching.
I hope that everyone will take a look at this map every day, and ask yourself what you can do to make it bluer.
