JUMP!
I was kind of avoiding Oregon because there are 5 district, four blue, one red, with really not a lot of chance to gain it. But, while we're waiting on Washington State, I figured the least I could do was go
somewhere on the Pacific seaboard. I'm glad I did. All the articles about Oregon were amusing. I have a couple of them highlighted in the text. If you need a snicker, check some of these races in more detail.
OR-1 Northwest portion of state - Our guy, David Wu won this last time with 58%. The reddie challenger is Derrick Kitts. Wu has a substantial advantage in dollars (10x COH). It seems even the reddies don't think this guy is ready for prime time.
OR-1: Safe Blue.
OR-2 East and southwest portion of state. This is a massively huge district: one of the largest in the country. The reddie, Greg Walden won this one with 72%. Our candidate is Carol Voisin, a teacher at Southern Oregon University with a background in theology and Christian ministry. I think that the sheer size of the district is going to make it difficult to do much without more dollars, and absent polling data to the contrary, I'm marking this one for the incumbent.
OR-2: Safe Red.
OR-3 North and East Portland. Our guy, Earl Blumenauer, won this district with 71% of the vote. The reddie challenger Bruce Broussard, who, to date, raised no money whatsoever, and appears to have been removed from the ballot for running for two offices at the same time. Whoops!
OR-3: Safe Blue
OR-4 Southwest portion of the state including Eugene. Our guy, Pete DeFazio, won this district with 61%, although Kerry and Bush tied at 49% apiece in this CD. You'd figure this would be a tight race, and, indeed, the reddie, James Lee Feldkamp, has raised a respectable amount of money, and has about 2/3 DeFazio's cash on hand. Now, I'm rating this one for the incumbent, because Eugene goes Red with Colorado Springs goes Blue. But I don't want to take your fun away, so read this.
OR-4: Safe Blue
OR-5 Salem and parts of Portland. Our gal, Darlene Hooley, won this last time with 53% of the vote, while W nudged a victory over Kerry at 50-49%. If I ran the Republican party, this is the race I'd be putting my chips behind. But the reddie challenger, Mike Erickson, has next to no cash left on hand (32k versus Hooley's 856k). But that doesn't stop this from being an amusing race. Check this out http://www.blueoregon.com/...
