It was Sunday, September 16th. Early in the morning. A quiet morning really. Just a tick before 7 am. Sunrise.
All was still across Washington DC. Mostly...
Perhaps all wasn't still. Because in separate offices across the capitol, three men prepared for the talk of their lives. Lindsey Graham. John McCain. John Warner. All of them on different Sunday morning talk shows, telling the American people why they have to make a stand against the president on torture and secret trials.
But it doesn't end there. They also begin talking about a general need for bipartisanship. On every Sunday show their remarks are immediately followed by Democrats voicing solidarity in the fight for human rights and the American way.
The aftershocks are felt throughout Washington. Moderate Republicans, emboldened by the actions of their highly respect colleagues, immediately speak out in support of the sudden interest in compromise. It's quickly realized that they have more in common with Democrats than their own party members.
Change begins at and incredible rate. Almost instantly a minimum wage rate increase is approved. The vote is veto-proof. In a shocking compromise gay rights legislation is passed. Democrats give a little to get a lot. The Republican moderates too. Goodbye tax cuts for the ultra rich. Goodbye tax breaks for war profiteering oil companies. War on drugs? Marijuana declared the judicial systems absolute lowest priority and the bulk of the war chest diverted to an actual war...the war on terror.
Somewhere in the middle of this November 7th rolls around. Massive losses for all of the Republicans who didn't get it in time. Goodbye Mr. Burns. Goodbye Mr. Allen. The Bloody 9th? Lot of red blood...
The above is a direct quote from the 11/7 Report* which was commissioned by the few sole survivors of the Neocon movement, in an effort to understand just what the hell happened. Needless to say, a few of them had to read them quick. 2008 was fast approaching...
* the 11/7 report totally made up
** despite this fact, I hold this little story to be absolutely as truthful as The Path To 9/11. ;o)
