Looks like this could be good news for Granholm in Michigan.
From today's Detroit Free Press:
Republican candidate Dick DeVos said Michigan school districts should be allowed to teach intelligent design in science classes as a possible explanation of diverse life on Earth, injecting the national debate over evolution into the campaign.
Another bit from the
Freep:
When asked by the Associated Press whether he would "support science guidelines that allow intelligent design to be included in the science curriculum," he answered, "Yes."
This is the big thing that a lot of people don't get. I personally don't have a problem with ID - and let's not sugarcoat it, they're talking the Creationism from a Christian perspective - being taught in schools. But injecting it into a science class when it's clearly not science? That's where the line needs to be drawn.
A comparative religion class? No problem. It's religion. If it's to be taught, keep it in a religion class. But any time these Republicans insist on injecting ID into a science curriculum, it just exposes them for the anti-science creatures they are.
After seeing what happened with the other school boards that tried to meddle in affairs of science in which they have no business meddling (and the public opinion surrounding the controversy), this could be very, very good news for Granholm's re-election bid.
