What's the most effective, cheap (free) way to reach a HUGE audience? Get stories on the frontpage of Digg.com! Anyone can submit a story and it takes less than a hundred additional users to 'digg' it to get the story to the front page. Once it's there, literally hundreds of thousands of people see it within hours. Are there a hundred people on DKos interested in getting the real story out?
Maybe somebody's already doing this... ? Many good ThinkProgress stories get to the frontpage of Digg already, mainly because they have a Digg This button on each post. There's also a surprising amount of hateful crap from Malkin and LGF that get up there too.
If enough people are interested in doing this, I think it would be the most effective way to get attention for stories that don't get much media coverage. For example, The Nation is reporting that a US carrier group has been unexpectedly ordered to the Persian Gulf, possibly for a strike on Iran Oct. 21. Everyone needs to see this, and getting it to Digg.com FP would be a major step. But at the time of writing, it only has 11 diggs: http://digg.com/...
So how would this story-promotion group work in terms of logistics? Someone would devote their diaries soley to stories that need Diggs. Each post would contain a summary of the article and a Digg This link. With just 100 subscribers, we could put any story in front of hundreds of thousands of people. All you'd need is a free Digg account. (on a side note, if you don't know about Digg.com, do yourself a favor and check it out.)
A secondary goal could be for DKosians to browse the 'Upcoming Stories' for anything that links to michellemalkin.com or littlegreenfootballs.com and Bury those stories. Any stories that link to primary sources (professional media outlets) are fine by me, but any story linking to a hateblog is an automatic Bury in my book. I use "Bury: Ok this is Lame", but I'm not sure what it does exactly. If anyone knows a better way to Bury these stories let us know.
What do you guys think? If there is enough interest, I'd volunteer to head it up, or someone else who's more involved in the community here can. I'm just really surprised this hasn't been discussed on here, such an easy way to get attention for stories the local news won't cover! All it would take is a little coordination.
