My partner had 60 Minutes on last night while I made rude noises at Condi Rice. I thought this bit was the kicker:
Rice: "I'm a true believer in the process of democratization as a way to overcome old wounds. And I believe that if we don't do that, then people who've had their differences, people who've resolved their differences by violence or by repression, are never going to find a way to live peacefully together."
She thinks that our violence can teach others to live without violence -- our "shock and awe" can teach others to not resort to terrorism -- our foreign occupiers can can teach others to build governments free of repression. And most of all she thinks none of the rules apply to us.
I got a lot of other undefinably weird vibes from the interview, but that one was the kicker. Full transcript and video at CBS.
