We wanted to give you an update from the campaign trail here in Pennsylvania's 7th District, where Joe Sestak is facing 20 year incumbent Curt Weldon.
The campaign is tied in the polls, tied in fundraising, and building a massive armada of grassroots volunteers to carry us to victory! Here is some of the great news coming out of the Sestak for Congress campaign:
- Let's start with the most exciting! President Bill Clinton is coming to town to stump for Joe Sestak!
- Not only that, when asked what races he is watching, Clinton mentioned Joe:
"...There is a House race in Pennsylvania where Curt Weldon, a 20 year veteran is being opposed by Admiral Joe Sestak, who was a career military man who served in that capacity on my National Security Council staff" ("On the Record," FNC, 9/21)
- The Crashing the States team visited our campaign this past weekend. According to their website, Crashing the States is a blogging journey that will capture and highlight the state of 2006 netroots campaigns. The team shadowed Joe to an event at the Careview Community Church, followed by the Clifton Heights Democratic Candidates Night. Make sure to read their diary recounting their time in the Philly suburbs.
- Joe Sestak and Wesley Clark have teamed up to help Democrats take back the House of Representatives. General Clark added Joe to his "September Slate," and sent an email asking his supporters to donate to Joe's campaign. But even better, Joe participated in an online conversation with the Clark Community Network. Read the transcript!
- Matt and Peter Slutsky interviewed Joe for their online show, Doublespeak. Read more and listen to Joe!
- Joe recently assembled a panel on national security issues featuring Tony Lake, Richard A. Clarke, and Rand Beers. "I can't think of a time when Washington was more in need of serious, honest and effective leaders like Joe Sestak," Lake said, while Rand Beers noted: "Our soldiers and sailors have defended us bravely and honestly. It's time to elect them to Congress to hold the President accountable and set the country straight. My friend, Joe Sestak, will be the kind of Congressman who will do that."
- Joe Klein recently came to town and highlighted the race for Congress in PA-7, writing favorably about Joe Sestak in his column, "In Pennsylvania, it's the Admiral Vs. the Firefighter."
