During my years I can remember too many times that the family was called together upon the news that a terminally ill family member was at the end of their time. It is always an uncomfortable time and I often found myself wondering if there was anything at all we could have done to have prevented that death.
Today I find that I am asking myself if there is anything that we can do in another time of crisis of lingering between life and death. Today our great country, the United States of America as we have always known and loved it is struggling to keep from succumbing to not one but several fatal maladies. Yes the America that we and generations before us have fought and died to protect, and we have loved and been proud of the fact that we lived in America the beacon of freedom and hope to the whole world. Make no mistake about it, that even though the United States of American will most likely survive this disease physically, it will never again be the great country we love if it does not get an immediate transfusion of courage in our legislative houses of Congress.
I hope you will follow me below for following part.
The diseases that she is fighting may seem to be be complex to some, but the actions needed for her salvation are quite simple.
The treatment needed:
We need the members of our government to finally grow some courage and stand up for America now. They need to say no to those who would further destroy our moral standing and turn us into a nation that not only condones but actually practice torturing. We need members of our government to have the courage to say no to wars against nations that are no immediate threat to our country. They need the courage to work hard to correct the injustices that exist not only within our own nation, but other countries also, for those who do not have any hope for a better life. They need the courage to say no more to the Corporations who exploit the poor and uneducated through out the world.
In short the very simple but hard to find remedy to get us out of this mess and put America back on the road to recovery is courage to do the right thing.
How did we reach the point that these ailments are threatening the very existence of the America as we have always been proud of? Is it because of the terrorist that brought death and destruction to our country? I say no that is not the reason we are at this point today.
I say no that is not the reason we are at this point today. We are at this point due to several choices that we have made over the years and some of them I give you below. I also may shock many of you here when I say that the blame can be shared by all sides and parties of our political process including yes even all the voting age citizens of this great nation.
Why the voters are also to blame:
For too long we as voters regardless of party have been all too willing to put our vote behind a candidate who may not share many of our values or may not necessarily be one who will put the good of the nation first. We have at least a very large portion of us voted for that person who can bring home the government funded jobs or projects actually known as pork without given great consideration to their policies on some very critical issues.
We as voters in both parties have not exercised our obligation of replacing that member who for what ever reason betrays the ideals and values that America was built upon. We have the option to do that every two years in case of the House and every six for the Senate. We as citizens have failed in that over site in many cases.
Far too many voting citizens have failed to be sure that they know enough about a candidate use the best judgment in casting their vote. Far too many citizens have not exercised their right and obligation to vote in the elections for those who govern our nation.
The fundamentalist Christian:
Yes they are guilty of betraying our country through their constant drive to change our Government of a nation that was built and found it's strength in separation of Church and State. They are in some respects more guilty than those who crave the power and personal wealth that drives the corruption and destruction of our very constitution. They are even more guilty because without their support the corrupt and simple evil people who are destroying our country would have never been in place to do the damage they have done are doing now.
The major Corporations:
The Corporations who have placed corporate gains and profits above the good of our nation and it's citizens. The Corporate control of the Main Stream Media has pushed support for the Party of destruction and almost completely shut out the opposition voice. The giant Corporations that go around the world raping the under developed nations of their resources and labor.
Our politicians themselves:
Far too many good people have been sent to Washington who had great ideals at the time, only to fall into the trap of craving more power and wealth even at the price of honor and integrity. Far too many otherwise decent members lack the courage and moral fiber to stand up and be counted for the core values at those times when it is sorely needed.
Our foreign policies:
For far to many decades our country has advocated and actively funded and supported overthrow of a country's leader in order to install dictators that will give the Corporate raiders friendly support often at the expense of the citizens of that country. Far too often we have armed and supported rebel groups in many countries throughout the world with little regard to anything but profit motive.
But to borrow a few words that I have heard the Big Dog say on a few occasions. We are where we are and what matters the most is what we do about it now.
I hold little hope that the Democrats will be able to put a stop to the destructive bills that are being pushed through right now. They certainly will not be able to stall or kill it with finding the courage to all stand together as one right down to the last and fight it in every way that is available to them. The example the House has set is not very encouraging as they were a lot of Democrats that voted for the torture bill.
Will the people in position to save the nation we have always respected find the often missing courage to stand up for America in this time of critical need? We shall see.
