For those of you ignorant about "push polling" like I was until reading about it in
Wikipedia , this is a form of telemarketing designed to "push" voters away from one candidate or party and toward another. The call is disguised as a poll, but laced with misleading information designed to sway your opinion about a person or party. I was recntly the victim of this kind of poll. While it is legal in some states, other states have made this type of telemarketing illegal as in the case of push polling in Indiana designed to influence voters of IN-09 against voting for Barron Hill. Follow below the fold to see how it is working in Ohio with the NRA.
I wrote about this briefly in an open thread a week or so ago, but I didn't understand the technique completely. I knew it seemed fishy, but couldn't put it into words well then. I will try to explain it the best I can so any Buckeyes, or anyone else, who sees NRA on their caller ID can be ready to fight back.
I was recently called by the NRA. No doubt because I am a registered gun owner in the state of Ohio and a hunter. They asked me to listen to a recordeing from NRA president, Wayne LaPierre. I had seen the number on Caller ID before, so I was itching to talk to them. My wife forbade me to argue with them when she was home (she really hates conflict, so I was excited when they called and she was away. Anyway, I readily agreed to listen. LaPierre ranted for about 3 minutes about how HILLARY CLINTON (I'll bet her name was used no less than 5 times in the 3 minutes statement) and the Democrats hate guns and the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment and they want to take all our guns away. The question was, "Do you think the NRA should continue to fight for the rights of gun owners in Ohio?" See how that works? They could give a shit less how I answer the stupid question, they just want an opportunity to blast Hillary and the Dems for hating guns. Of course, I gave the caller a piece of my mind, and made him listen to my 3 minute statement. However, the danger is with undecided voters or voters who may be unhappy with the leadership in Ohio and the country right now, but may not know enough about the Democratic candidates. This may just be the tipping point that makes them stay with the Republicans in the upcoming elections. People like Sherrod Brown or Vic Wulsin are not specifically named, but lumped with Hillary and Democrats.
Slimy to say the least. Illegal in some states. Beware! As the Empire begins to feel its grip on power slip away, Vader will pull out all the stops to maintain control. Be ready to fight back when thay call. It's actually pretty fun. I hope they call again!
