Folks, we have major news. George Allen and Jim Webb are TIED for the Virginia Senate race.
The polling is done by Maxon Dixon who are known to be the most accurate, NONPARTISAN outfit for Southern races. Here you go (and here):
Incumbent Republican Senator George Allen and Democratic challenger Jim Webb are tied in the latest MSNBC/McClatchy poll conducted by Mason-Dixon. Each candidate received the support of 43 percent of likely voters in Virginia with 2 percent supporting a third candidate and 12 percent undecided.
(I jumped the gun by helping to disseminate this data before it was official released -- sorry M/D!).
But now it is official.
George Allen is literally self-destructing. His clearcut racism is evident: from nooses, to macaca, to his voting record, to the N-word, to deer heads, and more and more. This will drip/drip/drip time and again. After all, he uttered the N-word in a stadium full of people: so most certainly he has said it many times before, and more and more people will come out.
And it is not just the racism (as if that was bad enough), but it is the LIES about his use of the term. Do Virginians really want a racist AND a liar?
Let's look at the trend lines:
In July, Allen looked like a safe bet to hold the seat. He led Webb by a 16-point margin, 48 percent to 32 percent in a survey by the same pollster, Mason-Dixon. Allen's lead shrunk to 4 points, 46 percent to 42 percent, earlier this month.
And another interpretation of this polling data:
The tie underscored how quickly prospects have changed for Allen, once thought to be cruising toward a comfortable re-election that he would use as a springboard to a bid for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.
Remember:
Virginia is for lovers, NOT haters!
NOW is the time that we must WORK. PLEASE can you donate to Jim Webb right now? Even a dollar would help.
An incumbent polling at 43% is in very, very bad shape. But don't think that this is "won". Not by a long shot. Allen has demonstrated a tenacious "do anything to win" mentality. And he has more money. That is why it is so important that we help Jim right now.

Will the undecideds break for Webb as has been typical CW? Or will they just stay at home, demoralized that the GOP is running a foul-mouthed Californian to represent their great state?
