The Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association's Legislative COPE Committee has endorsed Democratic Congressional candidate Bill Morrison's bid to unseat Republican Marsha Blackburn in the Seventh Congressional District. Morrison's campaign message is fighting for American jobs, a living wage, and fair trade so all Americans can benefit.
"The hard working men and women in District 7 have had enough of the Republicans failures. Securing our Nation goes beyond the global war on Terrorism. It must include the heart of our local communities and that is our local fire departments," said Morrison. "Our firefighters need the support of our elected Representatives and they have been ignored for to long as more and more Federal money is shifted away from our local communities to help pay for the big business tax cuts that this Congress has passed."
Morrison was referring to Congressman Marsha Blackburn's record of consistently voting party lines with the administration over budget cuts to firefighters and first responders over the last few years. The FY 2007 Budget cuts the First Responder Funding within Homeland Security by 25% or $573 million. Leaving some to wonder just how serious the current Congress is when it comes to safety and security at home.
