I laughed at the pre-9/11 mis-underestimating Bushisms. I thoroughly enjoyed the president kindly framing his head in the shot right next to "Mission Accomplished". I giggled when this president, his vice president, his party chair, and many others claimed that Connecticut primary voters voting "encouraged Al Qaeda types". Follow me below the fold for my new favorite Bushism.
CNN Reports Bush sees self as enemy
What do I mean by that?
Remember that kwazy old NIE Report, that our own DemFromCT aptly reported on?
*We assess that the Iraq jihad is shaping a new generation of terrorist leaders and operatives; perceived jihadist success there would inspire more fighters to continue the struggle elsewhere.
* The Iraq conflict has become the "cause celebre" for jihadists, breeding a deep resentment of US involvement in the Muslim world and cultivating supporters for the global jihadist movement. Should jihadists leaving Iraq perceive themselves, and be perceived, to have failed, we judge fewer fighters will be inspired to carry on the fight.
*We assess that the underlying factors fueling the spread of the movement outweigh its vulnerabilities and are likely to do so for the duration of the timeframe of this Estimate.
Well, according to that CNN story:
President Bush asserted Friday that critics who claim the Iraq war has made America less safe embrace "the enemy's propaganda."
...
"You do not create terrorism by fighting terrorism," he told a receptive military audience.
...
"This argument buys into the enemy's propaganda that the terrorists attack us because we're provoking them."
But.. Wait.. Doesn't the NIE like.. Work for us or something? And wait, wasn't it:
In the bleak report, declassified and released Tuesday on Bush's orders, the nation's most veteran analysts conclude that despite serious damage to the leadership of al-Qaida, the threat from Islamic extremists has spread both in numbers and in geographic reach.
Ruh-roh. The NIE is "terrorist propaganda", and Bush is the one who leaked it. I guess it's time for the United States to invade the United States so we can "fight them there so we don't have to fight them here"...
