Think Progress --
ABC has refused to provide a copy to President Clinton's office. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former National Security Adviser Samuel Berger have also requested copies of the film from ABC, and both have been denied.
Meanwhile the most obscure right wing bloggers are receiving them. I can't believe these people are still making like they're being even-handed either in the content of this propaganda piece, or how they're unveiling it.
Excerpt from Albright's letter:
While I have requested a copy of the broadcast, I have yet to receive one. I have been informed by some who had been given the right to view the broadcast that the drama depicts scenes that never happened, events that never took place, decisions that were never made and conversations that never occurred; it asserts as fact things that are not fact.
For example, one scene apparently portrays me as refusing to support a missile strike against bin Laden without first alerting the Pakistanis; it further asserts that I notified the Pakistanis of the strike over the objections of our military. Neither of these assertions is true.
She just wants to see for herself whether this is true... what's so hard about that, ABC? Don't want the people you slag to be able to mount an informed response before this piece of crap hits the airwaves? Don't want anyone to prevent this sick rewriting of history before it infects the minds of schoolchildren?
Berger's letter here, Albright's letter here. BTW, Albright uses the word "defamatory" -- a hint that she might sue if there ever was one.
GRRR!!!
I think of myself as jaded, but I just CAN'T BELIEVE ABC is doing this. Maybe the White House has some dirt on their CEOs, or is slipping them a big payoff, or something?
If you feel as I do, use highacidity's Big List of Action Contacts diary to let it be known. Let's throw our laptops at 'em, and prevent this disgusting exercise in manufacturing false historical knowledge from happening.
I'll let Madeleine Albright have the last word (emphasis added):
September 11th is a day none of us will ever forget. I know you are committed to the highest possible standards of accuracy and objectivity in reporting to the American people on a subject as important as the 9/11 attacks. September 11th is not "entertainment," it is reality -- the harsh reality of historical events.
Before you air your broadcast, I trust you will ensure you have the facts right. You owe it not only to those portrayed incorrectly but more importantly to your viewers and the American people.
