OK. Sometimes we just need a break from all the heavy lifting we do around here. So here it is. My offering to rest, relaxation, and good old fashioned mindless fun.
I am a scary movie fan. Afficinado. An unadulterated wuzzie who covers her mouth w/ her shirt and puts her sun glasses on to cut down on the scary. (and yes people fight over who sits by me but not in the good way)My niece and I just saw 1408. Very scary with the first scary thing an absolute classic. I'm not going to ruin anything. I will just say I will never be able to listen to the Carpenter's "We've only just begun" in quite the same way again.
Ok. Now on to the real point of this diary. I will offer up my favorites but I want yours. I am not a fan of blood and but I love scary...psychological, mind freak, oh my I want out RIGHT NOW scary. I want your favorites. And, no apologies necessary or accepted. Just let 'er rip. I'm making a list and checking it twice. Let me know.
Well, my first, number one, all time scare the crap out of me movie is:
- The Haunting (original not remake): Oh my, the scene where the heroine is lying in the dark next to her roommate and the spirit, ghost, house, whatever is pounding on the wall and she thinks she's holding someone's hand but isn't, messed me up for many years. Yes, I was a kid when I watched that movie on Bill Kennedy at The Movies, but it certainly held up over the years. Still kills me.
- Below: This movie is one that I know nothing about history wise. I caught it late one night on cable, never heard of and never saw it before. I watched it the other night, again (amc, just clicking through channels after everyone had gone to sleep). I'm not saying a word other than I woke my daughter up and asked her if she wanted to sleep w/ me. (Again, no judgements, please). This movie is sooooooooo scary. I want someone else who's seen it to tell me what they think;
- The Omen: No explaination necessary;
- The Others: With Nicole Kidman. I may have been the only one who didn't see the end coming, but what an excellent movie.'
- 1408: Really good.
- Jeepers Creepers: Surprisingly good. Didn't go to the show to see it because, frankly, thought it was just a stupid teen blood and guts movie (no offense to the teen blood and guts fan club) but this was a genuinely scary, original movie, that kept me on the edge of my seat.
- Blair Witch Project: This one scared the crap out of me at the movies but did nothing for me on tv. If you haven't seen it at on the large screen, probably not worth renting;
- The House on Haunted Hill (the remake): Crappiest ending ever, but up until then, I almost had a heart attack.
That's it for now but there are more. I'm not giving anymore up until you trade me a little.
OK--What's your favorite(s)?
