Howard Dean met with a small group of Democracy Bond holders at YearlyKos in a special meeting before his keynote. He is looking to get 500,000 grassroots stakeholders in the Democratic Party and begin to displace the influence of corporate investors. He's asked each of us who hold Democracy Bonds to get five others to participate. My personal goal is 500 more Democracy Bond holders from DailyKos. Thank you to the 42 people who have said yes so far.
To win in the South and the West we've got to build our locally-based field organizations on the ground, and that takes a commitment of funds. It's known as "The Fifty-State Strategy".
I'd like to invite you all to invest in a Democracy Bond via my page.
More about what you can do to meet the challenge below the fold:
Many of you who may have been part of a church at some point may be familiar with the term "Stewardship". Stewardship is really about investing financially in sustaining an institution whose values you share. I believe in the values of the Democratic Party, so it is incumbent on me to help with the Party's mission.
I've been donating $30/month for the past year or so as a Democracy Bond holder, but even $10.00 a month is just fine. It doesn't have to be a big monthly commitment, just whatever you can commit to on an on-going basis.
Time is running out for building a ground organization in all fifty states for the 2008 elections, so please think about becoming a stakeholder in the Democratic Party soon.
A bit more about Democracy Bonds:
A Democracy Bond is a commitment to make a monthly contribution the Democratic Party in order to:
* Reform the political process by building a political party beholden only to the people, not the special interests
* Build the Democratic Party from the ground up in every precinct so that we can compete everywhere
* Win elections in every state and territory of the United States, at every level of office
Democracy Bonds are about building a community of Americans with a stake in our common future -- locally, nationally, and globally. They will bond together a person in Alaska and a person in Missouri in common cause for a political process where parties are accountable to ordinary people and their concerns.
You can only buy one bond. You can decide to commit more money per month, depending on what you can afford, but the principle is democratic with a small-d -- one person, one bond. Every person can be a stakeholder in our party.
Governor Howard Dean launched the Democracy Bonds program (and bought the first one himself to signify his commitment) because he believes that we can take our country back -- precinct by precinct, block by block, with every Democrat taking responsibility for getting their family, friends and neighbors involved.
The Republicans raise $10 million every month from corporate interests and lobbyists. The Democratic Party will never be able to compete in the traditional ways with a party that has abandoned the people and taken selling access and influence to a new level.
But we can do it if half a million people are giving $20 a month to change the way our political process works. Create your Democracy Bonds mini-campaign now to get started.
And if you prefer the more tangible benefits, about 120 Democracy Bond holders got a private meeting with Howard Dean before his keynote at YearlyKos and it was a blast! As he said as he arrived: "Uh oh! I usually get myself in trouble when I'm speaking before an audience that I'm really comfortable with." And there's the large-scale planning Q&A conference calls with Gov Dean during the course of the year. So, Come on in and let's swamp the GOP in 2008!
Click my page to participate. My own goal is to get 500 Kossacks signed up (a small goal given how involved you folks are in Democratic politics), and I've got 42 so far. Let's hit that goal and get boots on the ground across the country ASAP. Thanks!
Let's take our country back.
