In a small effort at comic relief here... I offer this completely off (political) topic diary about my favorite new show "30 Rock"
I'm no exec at NBC... and I have no business interest here. But I was sad to see the remarkably witty show 'Arrested Development' get yanked and end up without a home. I don't know that 30 Rock is in this same danger but in a pre-emptive strike (I hear that's popular nowadays) against it's cancellation, I would like to personally recommend 30 Rock as a show worth watching. It's on NBC Thursdays at 9:30 Eastern (8:30 Central). Why post this here at dKos? I guess I consider this audience to be bright enough to catch the wittiness.
While 30 Rock doesn't quite have the same black humor as AD... it has some similarities. There's no laugh track. The funny lines come at you quickly and without warning. I like it when an otherwise mundane line early in the show sets up a good joke later... and 30 Rock is good at this. I'm not the type to laugh outloud at a show. I'm more of the type that will allow a small smile and a barely audible chuckle at things truly funny that has others falling out of their chairs. So while 30 rock doesn't have me falling off chairs, I do find myself laughing outloud. And in this crazy world these days... isn't that nice to do every now and then?
For those unfamiliar... the cast includes Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Tracy Morgan amongst others. Yes, these people are all closely associated with SNL. I personally find SNL completely outdated and generally not funny anymore (with a few exceptions... see Lazy Sunday skit). So, I'm glad these guys could team up and develop something worthy of a laugh.
